Thinking
out loud about pricing...
Generic CADD was discontinued
almost 15 years ago. The official price for Generic
Version 6 in 1993 was $495.00. If you are like many former Generic
customers, you may have purchased their annual version updates
which usually cost between $100 - $150 each year. A loyal
Generic CADD customer therefore would have invested between
$1,200 - $1,800 in annual upgrades had the company remained in
business.
Many informed General CADD Pro
customers have realized that purchasing GCP at
today's price is very much like purchasing the last 15 year's
worth of Generic CADD updates all at one time for between 1/2
and 1/3 what the total cost of those updates would have been.
Many have considered this a pretty unique bargain!
In recent weeks we have received
a number of emails expressing "sticker shock" from the
price of General CADD Pro. Upon closer investigation, we
learned that these persons had originally bought Generic CADD at
a very low price from nationwide reseller stores. These
potential customers have asked "Why the huge difference in
price from 1993 to now?". The answer is fairly
simple. The owners of the original Generic CADD company
were not as good business persons as they might have been.
At times when the company needed a cash infusion, they would
make a "deal" with large resellers for bulk
orders. It was these resellers that then put Generic CADD
on their store shelves at a very low, loss leader price.
If you happen to have been fortunate enough to have access to one of these
stores, you were able to take advantage of
this kind of discounting while the rest of us who bought direct
from Generic CADD, paid the full price. This kind of bulk
discounting is one of the main reasons the original Generic CADD
company was sold and ultimately discontinued.
